How to get a website for your shop in Malaysia
There are four ways: build it yourself on a website builder, hire a freelancer, hire an agency, or pay a monthly plan where someone builds, hosts and updates it for you. Which is right depends on your time, your budget and how often your prices or menu change. Here are the honest pros and cons, including when our own service is not the right choice.
First, decide what the site must do
- Take orders or bookings on WhatsApp?
- Show a menu, a price list or a catalogue?
- Show your area, map and opening hours?
- Speak to customers in BM, English or Chinese?
- Sell online with payment and stock?
Write the answers down. Every option below can be judged against that list.
The four ways compared
| Way | Good for | Watch out for | Your time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build it yourself (website builder) | Owners who enjoy it and edit often | Renewal prices after promotions; design and writing are on you | Most |
| Freelancer | A one-off site at a fixed price | Who hosts it, who owns the domain, who makes changes later | Some |
| Agency | Bigger or custom sites, branding, campaigns | Higher prices and yearly maintenance fees | Some |
| Done-for-you monthly plan | Owners with no time who want changes handled on WhatsApp | Minimum term, setup fees, how many edits are included | Least |

1. Build it yourself
A website builder gives you templates, hosting and often a domain for a monthly fee. On 26 October 2026 Hostinger Malaysia listed its Premium plan at RM6.99 a month on a 48-month plan, renewing at RM22.99 a month.
- Pros: the lowest cost of the four ways, and you change things whenever you like.
- Cons: you write, design and update everything; it takes evenings, not minutes.
2. Hire a freelancer
Freelancers and small studios advertise sites at fixed prices: the starting prices in the five ads we saw in Meta's Ad Library on 26 October 2026 ranged from RM199 to RM899.
- Pros: a designed site for a one-off price.
- Cons: ask who renews the hosting and domain, and who makes changes after launch, and at what price.
3. Hire an agency
GoDaddy's Malaysia cost guide puts a professional site at RM2,200 to RM30,000 per engagement, plus RM2,000 to RM5,000 a year for maintenance.
- Pros: custom design, branding and marketing under one roof.
- Cons: more than most small shops need; meetings and briefs take time.
4. A done-for-you monthly plan
Someone builds the site, hosts it and makes your changes for a monthly fee. SiapSite is one of these: RM99/month for Essential with a 3-month minimum, or RM699 once, then RM299 a year from year 2. We build a preview first, from your business's public details, and you pay nothing until you approve it.
- Pros: no time needed from you; changes by WhatsApp; hosting and domain included.
- Cons: you pay for as long as you keep the plan; check the minimum term and who owns the domain.
When SiapSite is not the right choice
- You enjoy building and editing yourself. A website builder is cheaper and gives you full control.
- You need a full online store with stock, payments and marketplace sync. An e-commerce platform such as EasyStore (from RM249 a month on monthly billing) is built for that.
- You need a large custom site or links into other business systems. An agency fits better.
- You only need to be on Google Maps for now. Start with a free Google Business Profile; see do I need a website if I have a Facebook page.
A checklist, whichever way you choose
- Set up your free Google Business Profile.
- Get a domain registered in your own or your business's name.
- Gather photos, your menu or price list, opening hours and the area you serve.
- Put a WhatsApp button on every page.
- Check the site on your own phone, on mobile data.
- Link the site from your Google Business Profile, Facebook and Instagram.
